Beyond the Wash

Detailing is often misunderstood as simply a very thorough wash. In practice, it refers to the systematic decontamination, assessment, and enhancement of exterior surfaces. It is a methodical approach to identifying and addressing clear coat issues.

The Decontamination Stage

Even after a meticulous contact wash, paintwork often feels rough to the touch. This is due to bonded contaminants:

• Iron Fallout: Tiny particles from brake dust and industrial activity that embed in the clear coat. Removed chemically.
• Tar and Tree Sap: Stubborn sticky residues from road resurfacing and parking under trees. Addressed with dedicated tar removers.
• Embedded Grit: Removed using detailing clay and lubrication, leaving the panel feeling glass-smooth and ready for assessment.

Paint Inspection

Once clean and decontaminated, we inspect the panels under technical lighting. This reveals the true extent of swirl marks, wash marring, holograms, and deeper scratches. Paint depth is often measured to determine how much clear coat is available to work with safely.

Optional Polishing and Enhancement

Machine polishing can help reduce the appearance of light surface defects and restore gloss. However, we do not promise "perfect paint correction" or a "guaranteed showroom finish".

The level of enhancement achievable depends heavily on:

• The thickness and hardness of the factory clear coat.
• The depth of the existing scratches (defects that have breached the colour coat or primer cannot be polished out).
• The age and history of the vehicle.

Final Protection

After any enhancement work, the exposed, clean paint must be protected. Applying waxes, synthetic sealants, or ceramic coatings provides a sacrificial barrier against the elements and makes future maintenance washing considerably easier.
