UK Seasonal Care Guide
Adapting maintenance routines to the British climate.
The environmental challenges your vehicle faces change drastically throughout the year. We recommend adjusting your wash frequency and protection strategies accordingly.
Winter: Salt & Grime
British winters introduce freezing temperatures, heavy rainfall, and road grit. Local councils use rock salt to de-ice roads, which forms a highly corrosive slurry when mixed with moisture.
Care Focus:
- Ensuring a strong layer of sealant or wax is applied before November.
- Frequent, touchless pre-washing to rinse away heavy salt buildup from lower sills and wheel arches.
- Checking that drainage channels are clear of debris to prevent water ingress.
Spring: Pollen & Sap
As the weather warms, vehicles parked near trees become coated in sticky sap and fine yellow pollen. Bird droppings also become more frequent.
Care Focus:
- Prompt removal of bird droppings, as the rapid temperature changes can cause the acid to etch into the clear coat quickly.
- Using appropriate citrus pre-cleaners to dissolve organic tree sap before it hardens.
- A thorough interior vacuum to remove pollen buildup from carpets and cabin air intake areas.
Summer: Dust & Heat
Dry spells lead to high levels of airborne dust and agricultural dirt on rural roads. High UV index can also affect unprotected plastics and paintwork.
Care Focus:
- Avoiding washing the vehicle in direct midday sunlight to prevent rapid drying and hard water spotting.
- Applying UV-protectant dressings to exterior black plastics and rubber window seals.
- Being extra cautious when washing a dusty car—always pre-rinse heavily to avoid rubbing dry grit into the paint.
Autumn: Rain & Leaves
Increased rainfall and falling leaves create damp, trapped dirt in shut lines, scuttle panels, and around boot hinges.
Care Focus:
- Physically removing wet leaves from the base of the windscreen to prevent them decomposing and blocking drainage holes.
- Deep cleaning interior glass to reduce fogging caused by damp ambient air.
- Preparing the paintwork for winter with a chemical decontamination wash.
